I am not at all impressed. I guess it's funny & the rhyme is catchy? And the message that the next aspiring engineer or scientist might actually create an effective trap is a good one.... But I found that I wanted to see more of the wee man actually navigating the traps... or more characterizations like the frustrated dad... something less superficial. This had the impact of a commercial, not a real book, imo.

How to Catch a Leprechaun by Adam Wallace and illustrated by Andy Elkerton, is a picture book that uses rhyme, humor, and illustrations to tell a fun St. Patrick’s Day story. The theme of the book is creativity and problem solving, and it is shown through all the traps the children built to catch the leprechaun. The leprechaun’s character is confident and sneaky, which is shown through his actions by escaping every trap and leaving tricks behind. He leaves behind glitter, gold coins, and even green toilet water. The illustrations support the text by showing the creative traps and the craziness the leprechaun caused. The book encourages imagination and creativity.
Kids everywhere dream of catching a leprechaun so they can get their hands on the pot of leprechaun gold. However, it's not that simple. Leprechauns like to play tricks. They temp children by leaving gold coins behind while taunting, "You'll never catch me." Again and again the leprechaun outwits these clever little kiddos and their innovative traps. Will anyone ever catch the leprechaun? You'll have to read the story to find out!
The Bottom Line: This fun story featuring clever kids and art in bold colors is sure to be a winner with children in Grades Preschool - Kindergarten. And if you liked this one, be sure to check out the other stories.

Loved this. The rhymes worked, the cadence was spot on. And the illustrations were fun and lively.
Each year, these pesky Leprechauns attack our home, make messes, turn things green, put googly eyes on things, and leave us gold coins in their wake. Great book for st. paddy's day, gets kids in the spirit.

This book is about a Leprechaun that goes into a house and the boy that lives there has set traps all over the house and as the leprechaun visits he manages to escape each one. Throughout the story there is rhyming and tells the audience some of the traditions of old folk tales.
