I bought this book for my nieces. They've asked me to read it about twice a week since then - and we have so many books, that's quite significant!
What I loved about it, more than the fact that the kid can really see how *everybody* sank the boat (very clearly illustrated), is the fact that it clearly presents a common narrative form - the most unlikely person is the one who sinks the boat.
The first time I read it, I paused to ask the older niece if she knew who sank the boat (the question is repeated several times throughout the book), and she answered it correctly, without even thinking - of *course* it's the teeny tiny mouse who sank the boat! Who else would it be?
To me, that's more important at the age of four than understanding show more about buoyancy, or understanding the idea of the last straw. show less

A cute read that encourages perception and discernment from children. Who sank the boat? Supposedly a tiny mouse....but, children delight in realizing the half ounce mouse isn't the real culprit!
This small volume challenges our assumptions. As a line of animals get ready to board a rowboat, we're asked which one will tip it over. Will it be the cow, the donkey, the sheep, the pig, or the mouse? A new rhyme each time the question is posed keeps the tale from becoming stale.
This would be good for a primary grades unit on sink/float.

A line of large animals piles into a boat, but the smallest one ends up being the reason it sinks. This humourous story would have children laughing and participating along to see who sank the boat.
Do you know? Great prediction story. Rhymes are brillaint witht he kids - not sure about the 'pig, fat as butter' esepcially as the other animals are just as fat. Love the fact that the one who sinks it is the sole man!!!!
A superb and funny book. The illustrations are very funny and they had my daughter captivated.
In this book all the animals are on the dock. One by one they get into the boat and "who do you think is going to sink the boat?" All of the big animals get in first and then the mouse get's in and tips the boat over. I like this book because it is not what you think is going to happen it would be a great story to tell in class. Grades k-3.
