From the enormous whale shark to the legendary great white to the enigmatic goblin shark to the small cookie-cutter shark, Slickety Quick is a delightful frenzy of shark mayhem. A good book for kids who like sharks. ( )

Summary: Slickety Quick is a wonderful children's picture book full of poetry about sharks. The poems are fun and make use of simple rhyme schemes that will appeal to children.

Personal Reflection: I like this book. I've never thought much about poetry as a form for children, at least, not traditional poetry like this. This book does it well, and I can see how children would enjoy it.

Extension #1: Students could pick their favorite poem and read it out loud.

Extension #2: Students could write their own poems in one of Brown's styles.

This amazing book combines sharks with poetry... and they are both well done! Fourteen varieties of sharks are covered on colorful two-page spreads with digital illustrations, a creative poem, and a descriptive piece of information. This would be a great way to introduce poetry styles or a great addition to a unit on sea creatures for elementary students. I highly recommend this title for both school and public libraries because of both its quality and its uniqueness. ( )
