Even though the plot was totally contrived, the author wrote "Our Song" in such a way that it was impossible not to fall in love with the characters and become totally immersed in their lives. I enjoyed the dual narrative shared by Ally and Charlotte, and found that the constant flashbacks enabled this reader to have a deeper understanding of the four main characters. Although only given a secondary role, Jake was central to some very moving moments, and he absolutely won my heart. Heart-warming and heart-wrenching, by the end of this book I was a blubbering mess.
Ally and Charlotte used to be friends. Ally used to date David who is now married to Charlotte. Charlotte is convinced that David still has something for Ally. One December night both women are in the same relatives room, whilst both their husband are in hospital. Joe, Allys husband is in a coma after falling in frozen water and David needs a new heart.

I have had this book recommended to me because I loved Me befor You by Jojo Moyes. I was also told that I would cry. There was nothing as sad as MBY and I was said but didn't shed a tear. I was confident I could read this book, like it, be sad but wouldn't cry. How wrong I was. I have cried through the last seventy pages or so.

I could see where this book was going. I put up with the flash show more backs and the story building. I just wanted to get back into the hospital with the characters to see what was going to happen. The author here has done a very good job of pulling the reader in emotionally. This book pulls on the heart strings more than once.

All I can say is go and read this book. Its going to take a while to get the characters out of my head and heart. Just WOW.
