Having experienced intruders in the house during the night, it would be one of my worst nightmares to wake up during the night to discover masked intruders in my bedroom. This is how See How They Run starts; with Harry and Alice waking to find intruders in their bedroom looking for Renshaw, a man they have never heard of. They try to convince the men they have got the wrong house, but the men only leave after threatening to harm 8 week old, Evie, and making Alice suffer a degrading assault. This, however, is only the start of their nightmare.
With fears over who they can trust and fearing for their lives, Alice and Harry find themselves separated and running across country in a fight for their lives. Alice has a slight handicap as she show more has the baby, Evie, who likes to wail at inopportune moments. Sometimes I was willing her to stay quiet and had to stop myself bouncing my kindle up and down to shush her.
It's such a fast-paced read that I felt like I finished it in no time at all, and could finally allow my heart-rate to get back to a more normal level. I didn't know who could be trusted and felt that everybody could be working to their own agenda. I even wondered whether Alice and Harry were the normal couple they claimed to be. At one point, I don't think I was the only one who doubted this as one of the couple has a Freudian slip in a text.
I really enjoyed See How They Run. There was so much suspicion and consequently many twists and turns that kept me hooked from start to finish. Although I do love a good lasagne and can't think of anything that would put me off it, I will never look at it the same again, thanks to Tom Bale.

Alice & Harry French are just your average young suburban couple trying to juggle marriage, careers & a new baby. Their lives are finally settling into routine when they receive a rude awakening. Literally.
What follows is a wild ride that begins with mistaken identity & quickly leads to life on the run for the French family.
This is high octane escapism that will appeal to fans of action films. Light on character development, it does just what a good thriller should do by providing a fast paced story jam packed with fights, car chases & shoot outs. The main characters are tested time & again by a bevy of smirking bad guys you’ll love to loathe before they can reclaim their lives.

A good old fashioned back to basics page turning mystery that didnt need to rely on the word GIRL in it's title to get reader's attention as word of mouth or should I say reader reviews did the trick.
I have been so disappointed of late with the thriller genre and was delighted when See How They Run was recommend by a Goodreads's friend, so I just had to give it a try and delighted to say it delivered
The opening chapter for this story really caught my attention and sent chills up my spine.

The Novel grabs your attention, is fast paced, well written and has interesting characters. Ordinary people caught up in a nightmare really makes this a great tense read with lots of twists and turns to keep the reader interested.
An enjoyable read and my faith in thrillers may be restored for 2017. show less

Alice and Harry are still getting used to life as new parents to their 8-week-old daughter Evie when their home is one night invaded by two masked men who are looking for Edward Renshaw. The problem is Alice and Harry have no idea who Renshaw is. A simple case of wrong address? Fearing the intruders wouldn't hesitate to carry out their death threats, Alice and Harry decide not to involve the police and just put the incident behind them. But their worst nightmare is only just beginning, and soon Alice and Harry find themselves on the run.
See How They Run had a really innovative storyline that moved along at a fast pace.
Action packed and full of suspense, this was hard to put down. I was never quite sure which of the characters I could show more trust. Although quite a hair-raising adventure, the plot remained believable and the characters felt authentic.
My first book by Tom Bale, but certainly not my last. Nice style of writing with short chapters that make you want to read "just one more". If you enjoy gripping thrillers, this is for you!

Protagonists don't need to be stupid to move the plot forward but it sure helps. Not sure what the breast feeding adds to the book but it sure is prominent. It strikes a contrast with the otherwise quite far-fetched plot - was that its purpose? Nice thriller otherwise, with a high density of plot twists to keep you reading.
What do you do when masked intruders wake you in the middle of the night? Will you obey their instructions or call the police? Why have they picked on you? Lots of action from the first page, this is no slow burner! The trouble is it was hard to get attached to this family - Alice and her fixation with the contents of the baby's nappy (far too many descriptions actually - some of us like to eat whilst reading!) and a rather drippy Harry who tended to dither a bit. The intruders and their associates were very chilling, the sort of people you wouldn't want to cross. It's an exciting, thrill packed story - great bit of escapism and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Wow! I think that's the best way to sum this book up. I'm still trying to catch my breath! This book starts off right away with a horrific middle of the night break in for new parents. Nothing could be scarier. The next morning they think they can try and leave it behind them, but boy are they wrong. And from then on, this couple is off and running--literally. And not one page does the action ever slow down. This book is just what I was looking for after reading thrillers that weren't very, well thrilling. There's a great mystery to figure out along with the action, and the main characters are strong and very likable too. There isn't anything I didn't like about this book. If you're looking for an adrenaline rush, this will fit the bill show more nicely. A full 5 stars for sure! show less
