An historical mystery short featuring Jonathan Harker (the solicitor in Dracula) as the protagonist. This is to be an introduction to a planned series. In this one Jonathan is hired by parents of a girl who is planning to marry a suspicious, much older man named Owen Velland. The parents aren't happy with the match but can't dissuade their daughter from her plans, so they hire Jonathan Harker to handle the marriage agreement and also to secretly investigate ominous rumours about Mr. Velland. I like the idea of a historical detective investigating supernatural mysteries.
Although it was fairly easy to see where the mystery was headed I enjoyed the story and the characters and will pick up the first book when it is released. ( )

Some forty years ago, after I had fully recovered from the dreadful events which took place at Count Dracula's Castle in 1893, I had feared that the resultant publicity might harm my career as a junior partner at the Exeter practice of Joplin, Kaplan and Penfold, Solicitors at Law.
