Dans ce livre, l'auteur libanais, Amin Maalouf, retrace l'histoire de sa famille en nous présentant notamment le portrait de son grand-père, Botros, resté au Liban, et de son grand-oncle Gabriel, émigré au Cuba où il était devenu un homme d'affaire prospère.
J'avoue que, lors de ma lecture, il m'est arrivé de trouver ce livre un peu long, détaillé, et même laborieux - surtout après les "montagnes russes" émotionnelles du Kite Runner. Ceci dit, je n'ai jamais perdu l'intérêt et il m'a ouvert une fenêtre sur deux pays sur lesquels je savais pas grand chose - le Liban, et dans un moindre degré, le Cuba. Il m'a également fait comprendre certaines choses sur la relation Orient-Occident. Et puis il est très, très bien show more écrit.
Sans aucun doute, Origines me donne très envie de découvrir cet auteur, que je crois maintenant "connaître" un peu, à travers ses romans. Une lecture donc dont je garde de bons souvenirs. show less
