This was a solid second edition to this trilogy. I felt like the first book was better, but the storyline was fast paced and engaging. We learned more about Serafina and Braeden, plus we had a bunch of all new characters! I would recommend this book and I can't wait to read the third one and finish off the trilogy. 4.5 out of 5 stars. ( )

3.5 stars. I liked this one better than the first, but the author seems bent on making things super dramatic and dark, there were parts in both books that seemed forced, or at the least just unnecessary. ( )

More Serafina--only a little darker. And now it's not so obvious who the bad guy's are; but at least we know who/what Serafina is. At 370 pages this book is long enough to flesh out the main characters, and a few of the ancillary characters as well. Not to mention that the plot lines are a bit more convoluted. Again we urged to "stay bold". And after it's all over: "It wasn't me. It was everybody--everybody working together". My congratulations to Mr. Beatty for reminding us that appearances are not enough: it's not how you look or what you say, that counts, but what you do.

Excellent continuation from the first book Serafina and the Black Cloak. This book picks up three weeks after the events of the first book. Once I started, I couldn't put the book down. Took me fourteen hours (this included breaks and such) for me to finish Twisted Staff. Highly recommend this book. I really must plan a trip to Biltmore Estates! ( )

Book description
Serafina's defeat of the Man in the Black Cloak has brought her out of the shadows and into the daylight realm of her home, Biltmore Estate. Every night she visits her mother in the forest, eager to learn the ways of the catamount. But Serafina finds herself caught between her two worlds: she's too wild for Biltmore's beautifully dressed ladies and formal customs, and too human to fully join her kin.

When a mysterious series of attacks test Serafina's role as Biltmore's protector, she finds herself torn from the side of her best friend and only ally, Braeden Vanderbilt. Heartbroken, she flees.

Deep in the forest, Serafina comes face-to-face with the evil infecting Biltmore-and discovers its reach is far greater than she'd ever imagined. All the humans and creatures of the Blue Ridge Mountains are in terrible danger. For Serafina to defeat this new evil before it engulfs her beloved home, she must search deep inside herself and embrace the destiny that has always awaited her.
