Description
Set in the UK in the immediate aftermath of a mysterious illness which swept the country and left millions dead, the series follows the trials facing a reluctant hero, Dan, and the group he forms around him. They must battle the elements, find sufficient supplies and equipment to survive, and protect themselves against the most destructive force on the planet: other people. Banding together those he found along the way, he has to fight to keep them safe. To keep them alive. To survive.Tags

Not great literature, but a fun page turner. Comparisons to The Walking Dead are apt, though notably there are no zombies here to distract from the Three Ls: looting, logistics, and legislating. If you like long inventories of what supplies are hoarded, intricate descriptions of how to provide food and water for a large group of survivors, and arguments about how to order society after civilization has collapsed, this is for you.
Survival by Devon Ford is a different kind of post-apocalypse story where two survivors come together and make a plan to collect all the survivors together into a community. New faces, and too many names to remember, join the party daily and grow a community from the ashes. Everyone has a job, either scavaging, policing, farming, engineering, etc., heads of departments are selected and responsible for training and overseeing their underlings.
Most of the story centers around collecting supplies and people. There are a couple of incidents where outsiders interfere and fighting erupts, otherwise, it's a blueprint to building a post-apocalypse community.
When one of their own doesn't return on time from a scavenging detail, and doesn't show more answer calls from the community HQ, Dan and others leave immediately to find this person. It is here they come upon a deviant person and all hell breaks loose. Unfortunately, the story ends here and is to be continued in book two. Since I was deeply involved in this story, I just recently purchased book two and hope it has more action than this introductory edition. Still, it's worth a read. show less
