I'd greater hopes for this one. It was good in parts but I found it lacking on the whole.
With scenes set in revolutionary France I can't help feeling that this should've been more exciting and shocking.
Worth reading but only once.

Below par on both the romance and plot. Takes place in revolutionary france but the girl is so dumb she cant decide who she loves and at the end the noble comte miraculously escapes the terror. Not totally awful but dumb.
I have always loved Victoria Holt gothics, and I am slowly accumulating my own copies of my favorites. This one involves not only the sweet innocent English miss in straitened circumstances, but also the French Revolution and a completely desolute French Comte.
