Curiouser and curiouser.

A great thriller that I was unable to put down.

The cast of characters were skilled and unique. Kali with her martial art training, the ability to read body language and an awareness of what is going on around her, like a sixth sense. She is unafraid. Marty, her best friend, martial arts partner with the ability to be Kali's anchor when Kali's emotions grow too strong. The mysterious dojo master, LeeMing who is found to be ex-triad. Inspector Spinks who seems to have his own ability to read other people and hid his own thoughts.

It starts with Kali's mom Alesha has gone missing, shortly after Kali received and blew off a call from her. Once she arrives at her mom's place, we start to learn of Kali's abilities and how her father secretly trained her to go beyond her senses. From this slow but interesting start it is easy to find oneself totally engrossed and unable to put the book down for too long.

Without me revealing too much of the plot, we have Kali guessing at the truth and following her mom's steps from London to Kolkata (India) and stumbling on a dire, sickening program. Along the way she learns more about her family, her dad and revenge from an long forgotten event still in the works.

The book ends up nicely and there are enough unresolved hints of un-yet-revealed secrets to make me a fan and a future consumer of the next book in this series.

Thank you Ann Girdharry for the copy of Good Girl, Bad Girl in exchange for this review. ( )

This book discusses a number of difficult topics, including child abuse, human trafficking and torture. It wasn't a comfortable read at times. The main character, Kal, is an interesting blend of almost-too-perfect and flawed, and is supported by a diverse cast of strong characters. It took me a while to get into the book, but once I did it was a good, fast read.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book in a LibraryThing giveaway in exchange for a fair review. ( )

Good Girl Bad Girl by Ann Girdharry is a suspense thriller, the first in a new series. Kal Medi is a photojournalist who travels around the world, and into dangerous situations, to get the perfect shot. She was trained by her mysterious father to be an expert observer. She is a martial arts champion as well. Kal knows how to hide her strength and abilities, using her exotic beauty (her mother is Indian) as one of her weapons. Kal returns to London when she receives word that her mother, a famous investigative journalist, has disappeared. She finds a threatening note in her mother’s apartment and soon the police are involved. Kal is determined to find her mother and begins to look into the people her mother had been investigating. The trail leads her to the highest reaches of London society, to the slums of Kolkata India, and into her own family’s secrets.

I enjoyed this book although it touched on some dark and disturbing themes (involving children) which I usually avoid. Kal is complex and haunted by her childhood, but strong, brave and full of ingenuity. The characters of Kal’s friends Marty and LeeMing, and the detective are all interesting and well developed. The villains are suitably villainous. The story was suspenseful and full of action. I would recommend this book for readers who enjoy suspense thrillers and mysteries with strong female protagonists. Interesting story. This story is a Psychological thriller. The story delves into the character's lives. The Chinese Triad become involved as well as Secret Services. The story is complex and unwinds bit by bit as the story goes. Which is a good thing, because too much of this story told up front would be too much. I thought the ending was a bit undramatic. I would have preferred an ending in which the bad guys one. The crime involved in this was horrific, but I thought it was too big to bring down to its knees. In real life, this would be still going on. I enjoyed the book. A lot of medical detail I would never have known otherwise. I left off one star because of the ending. ( )

I received this book from Library Thing for a fair and honest review.

Ann Girdharry's book, Good Girl Bad Girl, is listed as a psychological suspense thriller and that is exactly what it is. The main character, Kal, is a beautiful, strong, woman whose mother disappears, bringing her back to the UK to try and find her. On her quest to find her mother, she is faced with many terrifying and dangerous circumstances and struggles to overcome her doubts about her father and his death which she dealt with at a young age.

I thought the book was a good read with some unexpected twists. What Kal eventually discovers is very disturbing but a big problem going on in the world today. ( )
