Here come the Cream Puffs! Nate and his baseball team, saddled with the most embarrassing moniker in Little League history, want to show the world they're not just a bunch of cupcakes. But it won't be easy. Their opponents mock them. The local sports section misprints Nate's name—THREE TIMES. And now, on the day of the big game, illness and injuries have the team facing a crushing defeat . . . unless the unlikeliest Cream Puff of all can come in from the bullpen and save the day. With a show more softhearted pitcher who channels his inner panda, a vengeful girlfriend who swings for the fences, and a healthy dose of Nate Wright mojo, the Cream Puffs just might have what it takes to stage an epic comeback. So grab a glove, smear on some eyeblack, and get in the game. You don't want to miss a single moment of Revenge of the Cream Puffs!. show less

Big Nate: Revenge of the Cream Puffs focuses on competition and pride through Nate’s need to prove he’s better than a rival group. A main theme is how wanting to “win” can make someone act foolish. Nate doesn’t change a lot by the end, but he does have small moments where he realizes he’s gone too far, which makes him feel more realistic.
The characters are built around strong personality traits, especially Nate’s overconfidence and stubbornness. This makes the story funny, but also a bit repetitive at times. The book uses humor, exaggeration, and timing as important literary tools. The simple black-and-white drawings are a big part of the storytelling. Facial expressions and panel layout tell jokes visually and help show show more Nate’s emotions. While the book is fun and easy to read, it doesn’t go very deep with its ideas or character growth, which gives it an average three star rating for me. show less

Yeeeeeep, that's a Big Nate book. Nothing extraordinary about it, but they certainly are consistent.
