A bit protracted at times but overall a good read ( )

This is a review of a free book I received via the Amazon Vine Programme.

I'm reviewing The Day I Lost You by Fionnuala Kearney. Here are my thoughts:

^^ I know this is an older book, (Sept 2016) but I'd heard so much about The Day I lost You, I just had to read it. What did I think? It's brilliant!

^^ When Jess's daughter Anna is reported as lost in an avalanche she is distraught, but puts on a brave face and takes it upon herself to look after her grandchild Rose -- never quite giving up hope that there's still a chance Anna may be found and return home safely. But something in the back of her mind feel
s off kilter, (maybe a mother's refusal to believe her child is dead?), and as Jess traces her daughter's last few days she uncovers more than she bargained for. Piecing together more about Anna's private life than she had ever known before she begins to wonder just how little she knew her own daughter after all.

^^ The Day I Lost You highlights no one is perfect and life can get messy. We're only human and it takes a lot of us to make the world go around, some good, some bad.

^^ Losing a child is everyone's worst nightmare and this is an extremely moving novel. I found myself rooting for Jess as she tried to come to terms with what was happening as a parent playing detective, refusing to believe her daughter is dead.

^^ This story reminded me of 'Last Seen' by Lucy Clarke, both are very similar in theme and are also really quite emotional.

Overall: A cleverly written tale, which is both moving and harrowing as it uncovers the tru
th behind what went on in Anna's other life. How well do you REALLY know your family and friends? ( )
