Well, this was certainly a gripping read from start to finish, but there were parts that had me grimacing at the sadistic pleasure the killer derived from torturing his victims. It made me sick to think there are actually people like this out in the big, wide world.

FBI Special Agent, Tess Winnett, was a very likeable character. Despite her own demons, she was not afraid to bend the rules if it meant rescuing another victim before it was too late. She was hard, sassy, intelligent and persistent, and happily alienated her colleagues to get the job done.

Although, psychological thriller is not a genre I particularly like, I found "Dawn Girl" an easy read with a tight, exciting plot. The story moved quickly and the suspense was maintained show more until the end. Very entertaining. show less
I love true crime thrillers, but this novel was on the edge for me, as in two places it described the horrific torturing of two young women. I had to skip those thankfully brief pages. FBI Special Agent Tess Winnett is searching for a serial killer that tortures, kills, and then poses his victims on the beach to be found at dawn; hence the title. I got this book as a free book on Kindle but I would not be surprised if there are more Tess novels to come as it was a well-written thriller. 225 pages 4 stars
Action and Tension!

Backstory:

FBI Special Agent Tess Winnett becomes involved in a crime case that seems to be the work of maybe a serial killer as a dead woman is found on the beach all trussed up under a life guard station. Though Tess might have to step on a few toes to find out what is going on as she is assigned to work with two police detectives on the case. Whatever she has to do she will do to see the job done and if she has to muddle up something she will to find out where the path takes her.

The police detectives seem to be out of their depth when Tess becomes more involved in the case as she seems to go above and beyond to find out what kind of trail the killer has left as it seems that this murder is not the first and it is show more going to be up to Tess to find out who else the killer has murdered.

That is about all I can give on a backstory without giving away spoilers, so if you want to know more you will need to read the book!

Thoughts:

I love this character, Tess Winnett as she seems to take charge and doesn't let anything stand in her way to get the job done. This is my second book by this author and I really enjoyed the writing style along with the fast pace of the story. I have the rest of this series with Tess Winnett on my kindle and will continue with the series in the future. Giving this book four "Killer Thriller" stars!

This book was one of my early purchases on my new Kindle, but I had left it unread for almost 2 years. Before starting to read it I checked the ratings and I felt I may like it.

The story is the hunt for a serial killer based on profiling. The main character Tess, the FBI agent on the case, is not well like but more often right than wrong. She has experienced something in her past that motivates her particularly to find the perpetrator on this case. I did like the story that is fast and believable, with some exceptions. But on the other had it is not a particularly original story, with the exception of some techniques used by the perpetrator on its victims.
Leslie Wolfe has created one of the most sadistic, warped psychopaths ever. For those that love to read psychological thrillers you'll definitely want to read Dawn Girl. There are parts that will make you cringe and shudder in disgust.

Agent Tess Winnett with the FBI is on her last legs at the bureau. She doesn't work as a team player, is rude to fellow law enforcement and even though her arrest record is impeccable her boss has had it. There have been way too many complaints. Tess has a dark secret that no one knows about and is suffering from PTSD but can't let anyone know about it or she would be fired.

She is sent to Juno Beach to help locals with a murder investigation and orders to 'play nice' and get along with the local police show more department "or else." This murder is only the beginning or the middle of a long line of grotesque murders. Of course, in the beginning no one was aware that there was a serial killer.

I did have an inkling of one of the reveals at the end of the story but that in no way detracted from reading Dawn Girl. The tension and urgency grew throughout the pages to find this psychopath. I couldn't put it down. The author did a remarkable job in her descriptions of scenes and characters. As I said earlier, I recommend this book to anyone who likes psychological thrillers.

I first learned of Leslie Wolfe when I came across a book entitled The Watson Girl, this book looked completely enthralling so I decided to pick up the first book in the series, and thus Dawn Girl was cracked open.

We quickly meet Tess Winnett, a brilliant FBI agent who wastes no time with pleasantries. Tess boasts an equally impressive skill to solve cases and accumulate complaints against her. And while Dawn Girl may be book one, there are some serious undertones to Tess’ past unknown trauma at play within.

The research author, Leslie Wolfe put into Dawn Girl is incredible, from the procedure and uncovering of clues to the psychological profiling and twisted serial killer I am blown away. Wolfe’s talent and eye for detail are on show more full display here. Now that Rizzoli and Isle has been cancelled on TV you will most definitely find me curled up on the couch with more Leslie Wolfe novels!

This one was a really good mystery. I liked how Tess evolved and how everything came together at the end. I also really enjoyed the short chapters from the killers point of view! I definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys a good thriller!
