Calvert lifts villainous "Sloan" from the pages of Crisis Team #2 - Step by Step - and fleshes her out as the survivor of a terrible over-the-cliff car accident who is back at work in the ER of another hospital in a different city. Her life has changed for the better, but it is still flawed and she has multiple secrets which she strives to keep safely tucked away.

The story explodes into action with a near kidnapping in front of the hospital and Sloan runs to the rescue of the teen. While in the ER because she is slightly injured, the rescued teen has a disturbing tattoo "property of...." in a hidden area. As the story progresses, the frightening reality of girls held as sex trafficking merchandise and similarly tattooed comes to light along with brutal criminal activity toward these young girls and those who come into the cross hairs of the criminals.

Woven throughout is the thread of forgiving those who have harmed you and also in finding a way to forgive yourself. This forgiveness is found in the deep seated forgiveness of Christ and it is called Grace. Calvert nicely weaves this into the story.

The romantic interaction between Sloan and Micah, a Crisis Team Volunteer and ad man or PR man for the hospital, gets off to a slow start but they do discover their attraction to each other. This book seems to have a bit more romance than Calvert's previous books.

This is a good, clean read though some parents may want to screen it prior to giving it to a young teen given the subject of sex trafficking and sweet romance scenes (though definitely clean) are part of the story. Again, this is a clean read and definitely not offensive.

Title: Maybe It’s You

My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.
Maybe It’s You is the third and possibly final novel in the Crisis Team series. The other titles in the series being, By Your Side followed by Side by Side. Sloane is an ER nurse who is running and hiding from her past, trying to live with a new identity in the hopes that her past will not be revealed. Sloane’s character is a compassionate, caring type who runs headlong into any situation without a forethought to her own life. The biggest problem for Sloane, other than trying not to be found by dangerous people, is that for so long she has not allowed herself to become friends with coworkers or other people at AA meetings.
Sloane’s story is fraught with a plethora of highs and lows, action and danger, loneliness or perhaps true love. She hates to look at people with caution and sometimes is afraid they are somehow connected with her ex-fiancé or of learning how she was living a life making a series of bad choices with serious consequences. However, there is more to this character’s story for as you read the book you see her life may just contain hope and a faith in a God of His grace regardless of her mistakes.
As I read, there were parts where the suspense and tension were extremely palpable and kept me reading for hours. The transparency that Sloane wanted to show or to live a normal life was only possible when she was alone. The battle for her heart to believe that God loved her and extended His grace towards her was a truth she had to learn the reality of. I think the author did a great job in the novel by reminding us there is more to a person than what we see on the outside; there is the heart. Plus, people are longing to know the reality of God’s love regardless of the mess they make of their lives and that it can be different!
There are, of course, antagonists in the story who tried repeatedly to thwart Sloane’s plans and her life. Again, it reminds us that we all have those who don’t want us to succeed whether it is staying sober one day at a time, working in a field we love, or having faith in God. Regardless, God pursues us and longs to redeem us from the burden of our pasts with all of the messes, and to make us brand new. This is a great series of books that I highly recommend!

I'm not sure I can find words to say how incredible this book is, but I did finish it in one day. Once I started reading I knew there was no way I could put it down. The author has written a story charged with action and an unbelievable cast of characters. The storyline is absolutely brilliant with specs of mystery that will have you on the edge of your seat. Everytime I hear that the author has a new book coming out, I count the days till I can get my hands on a copy. The explosive action and secrets rooted in the story stirs an adrenaline rush of anticipation.

Sloan Ferrell is trying very hard to blend into her new surroundings. She has taken a job as an ER nurse, but is extremely guarded about her personal life and has changed her last name. I loved how the author explained the reason Sloan chose her last name. I could visualize a wall built around her that no one could knock down as she went about her day. She is very strong and determined to not call attention to herself, but that is all about to change. What happens when she rescues what looks like a young girl being kidnapped outside the ER doors? Will this girl have an impact on Sloane's safety?

Micah is a very important man around the hospital and also volunteers on the crisis response team . His volunteer work is often very emotional as he comforts people thst have lost a loved one. I loved when he said, " Someone''s got to be there for the survivors." For Micah, it is important that those who are left behind to grieve get that comfort and compassion that he knows is so vital. Micah has experienced loss and it still haunts him today. Why does he feel responsible for the accident that killed one of his relatives? Can he find a way to forgive himself?

I really enjoyed reading as these two characters start a friendship. It definitely is not love at first sight . Sloane can really get defensive if she thinks someone is getting too close. I loved how the author described Micah as, " a compassionate listener, a calm and caring patience." Oh how I would love to be more like Micah. Do we listen with compassion, or are we too caught up in our own problems and brush people away?

The story takes a dramatic turn as Sloane's past starts to catch up with her. She has made some bad choices in her life and now the media is exploiting her . Have you ever had something happen to you that you wanted to keep a secret because you were ashamed? Her ex-fiancé has tracked her down, which means he has brought danger to her. There are Russian mafias, human trafficking, abuse and alcoholism nestled in this thriller that keeps you guessing till the end. Can Sloane overcome the threat and give her heart to God? Will the characters feel the grace that God has for them?

This story has really shown me how a person who was vulnerable and untrusting , open up and receive forgiveness and transform into a person that understands the feeling of grace. The author has written a very emotional story filled with God's grace and taken characters from the darkest places and brought hope and light to their lives. Are you ready to experience that same feeling of freedom?

"We see our scars and flaws...God sees the child He's always loved."

I received a digital copy of this book from the author for an honest review. ( )
