"In a sprint, every millisecond counts. When you're waiting for love, those milliseconds can feel like eons. High school senior Lucas Preston has it all: star of the track team, a scholarship waiting for him, an apartment to himself and a revolving door of girlfriends. He also has an older sister, five younger brothers and a father who relies on him to make sure those brothers don't kill each other. His saving grace? Lois 'Laney' Sanders, a girl he started to fall in like with when he was just eleven. A girl who became his best friend, his confidant, his courage. It took sixteen clicks and eight seconds for Lucas to realize that his like for Laney had turned into love. Eight life-changing seconds. It's also the exact length of time it took to lose her."--From back cover.… (more)

Were you wondering why I'm subjecting myself to this crazy making NA that really isn't NA?

It's my author break up book, that's why. Between 3-5 years ago I could enjoy these when my source was KU and solid CR was hard to find on KU (STILL IS, I GUESS)

But, this is just one of those things I had to finish. I had to prove the memories were just fond of this author because of my context at the time and I'm not missing a hidden gem. I think I've started my new tradition.

-the heroine had no other relationships besides hero's family and hero
-they both behave like kids their age but also don't. They just didn't feel authentic.
-lots of writing/editing issues. Inconsistent to crap.
-some good stuff, honestly. But not enough and not without being buried. ( )

As I read this book I kept wondering why so many readers kept stating how much they loved Lucas. Lucas was sweet, Lucas with this that and the other. Now don't I didn't dislike Lucas but I didn't think he deserved all that praise. Lucas seriously messed on Laney, here she was his best friend and he supposedly loved her and he took her virginity that she had saved for him. Then the next day he shows up with Grace his girlfriend that he had cheated on with Laney, and slept over her house after taking Laney's virginity. What? Now I know some of you will defend his actions by saying her brother just got in an accident and she was broken hearted and he didn't want to add to that, I get that part but you can not tell me that he didn't have any opportunity to tell Laney what happened, nope yeah right. So you could not judge Laney for not wanting anything to do with him, he deserved and then some and I am glad he was broken hearted, now he got to feel what Laney has felt for years while he was with other girls. I loved when Leo called him out on him. All that said I am glad he woke up and that when Laney needed him he was there and eventually they got their HEA..But no praise for Lucas more for Leo and even Laney herself for what she went thru she was prime for the picking ( )

**I received a review copy of this book in exchange for an honest voluntary review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

Jay McLean has a phenomenal talent for writing love stories that always surprise me while making me feel every emotion possible.

I thought I knew what to expect when I picked up Lucas. On the surface, it seems like your typical "BFFs secretly in love with each other story" but it is so much more than that. Just like its parent series, More Than, this story is filled with dramatic twists, charming characters and a heartbreakingly beautiful story about love, friendship and family. It will surprise you in a great way.

I immediately fell for Laney and Lucas. It's hard not to I think. They have this great friendship and understanding of each other that very few people ever find. They're the type that make you believe in soulmates. And watching their story unfold as it did had me captivated from the start. From their character growth, to their moments together, I couldn't get enough of these two!

The path to true love is never a straight line and this book shows that at every step.

It was such a treat for me to return to this world and I can't wait to go back again!
