Doresse was writing intelligently about the Gnostic Gospels a long time before Pagels had a degree, and before the current renaissance in gnostic interest. Doresse, an expert in the Nag Hammadi corpus, makes no leaps like most new age hack writers and, unlike them, he gives you a history of Gnostic scholarship before the Nag Hammadi gospels were found.
