Description

The VanBuren family could not have been happier the day they moved into their dream home, a charming Long Island Victorian. But soon the dream turns into a nightmare. A centuries-old presence, desperate to be reunited with the love that was cruelly taken from him, sets his sights on Melanie VanBuren. Nothing will stop him from having his 'darling,' not Melanie's husband, Gary, or their three young children. Can Melanie bring an end to the horror before her family is destroyed?

I thought this was a quick read. It flowed good and the characters were well developed. Who doesn't like a good ghost story with lots of twists and turns. Good read.
This was a pretty good ghost story. It starts out a little slow, but then it picks up speed around chapter 7. This book had lots of twists and turns. The house has a mean-spirited ghost that makes its presence known to the mother and children - the father stays in denial through most of the book, but finally he realizes that there is such a thing as "ghosts". The story starts moving at a faster pace and the last 8 chapters of the book, I stayed up to the early morning hours to finish reading it. (Note: there is a sequel to this novel called "Ghost House Revenge" - I am looking forward to reading the second one).
In McNally’s horror novel, the beautiful mansion seemed the perfect home for the Van Burens and their young family. At first the Van Burens believed there had to be logical explanations for the things that were happening. Before all was said and done, they were fighting for the lives of their children against an evil determined to destroy them all.

Scary at times and a worthwhile read.
This is such a good book!! Read it years ago and still have the copy in my collection! Kept me guessing and wanting more!

The execution was over.

The fires had died down, emitting now only snakes of gray smoke. Sparks of orange flashed sporadically from the bits of charred wood, lying in a soft mound that the salt wind of the bay would s... (show all)oon sweet away. -Prologue, September 10, 1797
Gary VanBuren turned his station wagon into the gravel driveway of his new home and pulled up to the front door. He sat there for a moment, taking in the property around him and the house that loomed enormously in the center ... (show all)of it. Even though he had seen it a dozen times before, slamming doors and kicking radiators before signing the contract, he was so awed by the size and beauty of something he could now call his own that he was barely conscious of his hand twisting the key from the ignition. -Chapter 1
