This lovely book focuses on the life of the nineteenth century York artist Mary Ellen Best (1809-1891) who had a remarkable talent for painting fine interior watercolours that act as a charming record of daily life, as well as portraits of her family and friends. She was also a discerning traveller making three Continental tours before settling to live in Germany with her husband. The book is well illustrated with a selection of Mary's watercolours.
