This book gave me a real sense of déjà vu, as I’ve seen many other stories that point out what various animal eat. The ending was a refreshing change, as was information at the end about the various animals.

Porcupine is going on a picnic. He finds just the right spot, sets down his blanket, opens up his picnic basket, and starts eating some clover. Several of his friends appear and ask if they can join porcupine. We meet a koala, panda, ostrich, tortoise, elephant, giraffe and more. Each time someone joins, a generous Porcupine offers his clover, but each time the other animal politely refuses and tells Porcupine what he will eat instead. We are introduced to 21 animals and what they eat in this story. The last animal that appears is Tiger. Once again Pocupine asks politely, "What will you eat?" With his response, the animals all scatter as fast as they can.

This book gives the reader a brief look into different animal's diets and classifies "Who Eats What? The animal kindgom is divided into three distinct groups depending on their food consumption: herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores. The back of the book gives information about each of these groups. It also explains that the animals in the story come from all over the world and wouldn't meet in real life. There a several activities you could do after reading this story including categorizing the animals in the story, as well as further research into other animals. The illustrations are crisp, colourful and vibrant and definitely enrich the text. I highly recommend this book to schools and families where children are interested in animals.
