Fiction. Literature. HTML:When a DNA test reveals long-buried secrets, three generations of women reunite on Cape Cod for the homecoming of a lifetime.
Marin Bishop has always played by the rules, and it's paid off: at twenty-eight she has a handsome fiancée, a prestigious Manhattan legal career, and the hard-won admiration of her father. But one moment of weakness leaves Marin unemployed and alone, all in a single day. Then a woman claiming to be Marin's half-sister shows up, and it's all Marin can do not to break down completely. Seeking escape, Marin agrees to a road trip to meet the grandmother she never knew she had. As the summer unfolds at her grandmother's quaint beachside B&B, it becomes clear that the truth of her half-sister is just the beginning of revelations that will change Marin's life forever. The Forever Summer is a delicious page-turner and a provocative exploration of what happens when our notions of love, truth, and family are put to the ultimate test.
Full of delicious descriptions of coastal New England and richly imagined characters, The Forever Summer is an emotional, hot-topic page-turner and a summer must-rea

Why do I read books like this? Major continuity issues pull me out of the story. So many threads. Fran made a cameo appearance but what was Rachel’s story. How did her mother conceive? A waste of time. ( )

When I realized Jamie Brenner had a new book coming out next May I quickly looked over my TBR shelves ( yes more then one) and had one not read yet. My favorite kind of surprise! It was very good, great plot, and scenery described so well I think I could picture the Beach Rose Inn in my mind. ( )

Rachel was raised knowing that her biological father was a sperm donor. Marin has never had any reason to believe that her father is not her biological dad. One day at work, Marin uses a DNA program on a whim. When the results filter in, she's confused but not concerned. Then she is contacted by Rachel who says the test matched them as half sisters.

Things have been going very badly for Marin lately, so when Rachel shows up in town and suggests a road trip to meet their biological grandmother Marin decides she's got nothing to lose.

Marin's mom learns of this plan and decides to tag along.

They all gather at the inn owned by grandmother Amelia.

They make an interesting little mash up of personalities.

Each character was given her own interesting storyline and each storyline was resolved.

I definitely liked the common thread in each of their lives, that one summer could change the course of the rest of her life. ( )

Jamie Brenner tells a wonderful story that begins with endings. Starting with a DNA test, a curious email and ultimately what is supposed to be a quick escape trip to Provincetown- Marin, Blythe, and Rachel show us that sometimes new beginnings are found in old secrets. The Forever Summer is about loss and love and the complexities of relationships. Learning when to let go and when to hold on with every ounce of strength you have. This was my first novel by Jamie Brenner and I very much enjoyed following each of her characters, some very likable and others not so much but each of them authentic. The only drawback, I felt, was a couple of loose ends I had hoped would be tied up but the storyline is fantastic and I will be reading more of Ms. Brenner’s books! ( )
