Description
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, But the prayer of the upright is His delight. - Proverbs 15:8 Prayer is the key that unlocks all the storehouses of God's infinite grace and power. All that God is, and all that God has, is at the disposal of prayer; but we must use the key. Prayer can do anything that God can do, and since God can do anything, prayer is omnipotent. No one can stand against the person who knows how to pray, who meets all the conditions of prevailing show more prayer, and who really prays, and if they are willing to pay the price. The price is prayer, much prayer, much real prayer, prayer in the Holy Spirit. Few books on prayer have had the staying power of this book by R.A. Torrey, Bible scholar and evangelist of the early 20th Century. As the first superintendant of the Moody Bible Institure, he was influential in preparing many lives for future ministry including my grandfather who became an early missionary to Korea. This book is curiously dated and timeless. It is timeless in its application of scriptural truths, while dated or seemingly so in its examples. He speaks to a time when Christian men and women were in agreement on the dangers of dancing, cards and the theater and felt that those who practiced such would not have answered prayer. Torrey gives a very convincing argument for the efficacy of prayer, explaining also how to pray, show more who can pray, why pray, what interferes with prayer, how to overcome hindrances to prayer and what prayer can do for a person or a nation. show less
No other book so clearly outlines the positive of prayer the pre=requisites to prayer, the purpose of prayer or the power of prayer.
