I use it as I always do, with my own taste and discretion, but still a much better aid (although they should not be scorned) of Yelp, TripAdviser, or Google customer reviews. The Michelin has evolved over the last 30 plus years where the food is no longer so French traditional, where they now have categories "modern" or "creative", both of which I avoid like the plague. Unfortunately they no longer feature French institutions of food like Au pied de cochon in Les Halles (there I had an excellent blood sausage ravioli with a crustacean sauce) or Le Train Blue in the Gare de Lyon (and there I have had and it still has probably the best roast leg of lamb I did not cook). However, they still carry in the guide the overpriced and over rated Allard's, which I cannot figure out for the life of me. But they have discovered a gem of a place high up in the Cevennes in the ancient village of Soudourges. It is run by Angelo and Helene, friends of mine (I learned to do tile roofs from Angelo in the 80s), and it is worth a pilgrimage. However, they are now terrified they will lose their rating somehow this next year. In anyway, I find the Guide an almost indispensable if quirky pleasure to use while in France.
