Description

A single mom gets a tasty bite of undead romance in the second novel in the Broken Heart series.
Ever since a master vampire became possessed and bit a bunch of parents, the town of Broken Heart, Oklahoma, has catered to those of us who don’t rise until sunset—even if that means PTA meetings at midnight.

As for me, Eva LeRoy, town librarian and single mother to a teenage daughter, I’m pretty much used to being “vampified.” You can’t beat the great side effects: no show more crow’s-feet or cellulite! But books still make my undead heart beat—and, strangely enough, so does Lor?an the Loner. My mama always told me everyone deserves a second chance.  Still, it’s one thing to deal with the usual undead hassles: rival vamps, rambunctious kids adjusting to night school, and my daughter’s new boyfriend, who’s a vampire hunter, for heaven’s sake. It’s quite another to fall for the vampire who killed you... show less

What kind of book do you get when you mix the chick-lit sass of a soccer mom with the urban fantasy cool of a vampire clan? A really clever book, that's what.

As if Evangeline (Eva) LeRoy didn't have her hands full already with her teenage daughter and running Broken Heart, Oklahoma's library, she's been vampified. Stuck on a liquid diet and with a new 'hot mama' make-over courtesy of Jess from the first book, Eva's life has certainly done a 180. Ever since she was turned critters of all kinds flock to her like she's some sort of magnet for animals. From squirrels and deer to the elusive black wolf who won't get close enough she can touch him she's discovering she has a new power, the power to communicate with and command shifters.

This show more new power comes in very handy with the Wraiths letting loose vampires they've tried to cure of the taint. Though lycanthrope blood worked for Lorcan, the vampire who killed the eleven vampires created in book one, it hasn't worked for these twisted hybrids. But who is behind it all and what do they want with Lorcan and Eva?

Though focused much more on the events involving the Consortium and the Wraiths, fear not my dear romance readers, there's plenty of sensual tension and chemistry between Eva and Lorcan. You'll learn more about the Ancients, werewolves and Johnny Angelo & his evil cat Lucifer this time too! I really enjoyed Eva as the single mom raising a teenaged daughter, between wondering about her daughter's vampire slayer boyfriend and trying to tell her potential suitors there's only one guy she's interested in.

This is a paranormal with real heart and while lighter, fluffier reading than the heavy-weights of the genre this series is going onto my favorites shelf with the first book of this excellent series.

What I Loved: I laughed, I cried, and I started wondering if all the hot Gaelic speaking men lived in some little town in Oklahoma. I really loved Lorcan and Eva, they were my kind of couple. They both had self-esteem issues, responsibilities, and were strong yet vulnerable on their own. Other than being vampires, they were both very real characters.

What I Liked: I love that Michele has created this world where she can push the boundaries. It seems like a very real town and all these parents are dealing with very real issues: how to do right by their kids, how to set up a working schedule, and how to blend their new lives in to have the least impact on those they love. The fact that they are vampire parents now have just added to those show more single parent responsibilities. It is very fun to read.

Any complaints? I actually have one but it is more about the teaser that was in the last book. You kind of find out that it was misleading and really not even in the book at all. I am a teaser fan so that irked me a little.

Why I gave it a 4: Lorcan is almost my perfect kind of anti-hero: he is well read, smart, kind, giving, protective, and if he was just a shifter/were instead of a vampire he would be perfect :) I really enjoyed this book from beginning to end! It did what I was hoping-transported me out of this world and to Broken Heart Oklahoma where I could escape for a few hours. Also I loved the fairytale that was woven through the story.

Who I would recommend it too: PNR lovers who like fun lighter reads and chick-lit readers who can handle a little paranormal.

If I weren't 'researching' this genre, I would have never even touched this one after the first. This one, while slightly better, stars a heroine who dropped out of high school because she got pregnant. But she loves to read, you know, classics and romance and celebrity biographies. I kid you not. And according to the trashy world of this book, which sadly I'm sure exists, she don't need no fancy paperwork like a high school diploma to prove how much she loves to learn. And all that book learnin' she's done apparently qualifies her as the town's new school teacher. Yeah, this is the type of world I want to imagine existing....I can't wait to get through this series so that I never have to think of it again.
Hmm, I actually moved on to book 2. At least this book only had 2 love scenes in it and they weren't doing it every other page. There was more room in this novel for a plot.

I'm getting used to this weird world of Broken Heart, OK, filled with vampires and lycans. This book was told from the perspective of the town librarian. She has a teenage daughter who finds a vampire hunter boyfriend (!) and she is in love with a terribly handsome, ancient, brooding vampire.

Yeh, I'm not sure of the attraction to these domineering, possessive men. Doesn't do a thing for me but sure turns Eva on.

I do own book 3 so I will be moving on!
Evangeline is a young single mother who gave up much to raise her teenage daughter. She is an uneducated woman by institutional standards, but as a self taught learner she is a brilliant woman. When she is killed and turned into a vampire her life makes an abrupt turn. She gain some kind of Dr. Dolittle ability and can talk tot he animals. * Yes, there are many jokes there.
Lorcan, the tortured soul vampire, tainted and crazed commits sins he can't forgive himself for. He carries his guilt, never allowing happiness to interfere with it. He may just the ultimate key for the survival of his people when his taint is cured. He feels guilt, and maybe something more for Eve, at the least he owes her protection.
There is danger, action, show more fighting, budding love, adventure, lame jokes, furry fun, nibbled necks, ancient wisdom, and just pure enjoyment between this cover. This series is like a cold drink of water on a hot day.* Vampire Light* Fun quick and sexy. show less
This was a very fun read. I loved the main character's sense of humor. I hope this is a long runing series because the first two have been laugh out loud funny!
Don't Talk Back to Your Vampire by Michelle Bardsley is the 2nd book in the Broken Heart series and was a fun read. I really enjoyed the first book and was excited when I found this one at the library. Eva is the town librarian and another one of the new vampires that was formed after Lorcan attacked. She is dealing with all of the issues that go along with being a vampire as well as a single mother to a teenage girl. And then she realizes that she has to deal with her growing attraction to Lorcan the vampire who killed her.
This was a fun, enjoyable read that I picked up and then couldn't put down. I enjoyed the chemistry between Eva and Lorcan and was rooting for them to find their happy ending. Eva was a strong main character and I show more liked reading about her. I identified with her love of books (who wouldn't?) and her love of animals. While I didn't love this one as much as I did the first book in this series, I did enjoy it and will be looking for the third soon. A great series so far and I do recommend if you enjoy paranormal romance. show less
