This picture book biography is lacking in biography. It starts out interesting, but it takes so long to list various colors it deadens the rest of the story. The artwork is great, and the authors note at the end was way more informative than the pages of the book. I like this book, but it could’ve been done better. ( )

What a BEAUTIFUL book. I love sharing the story of one of the first women to work for Disney. And all of the different names for colors is an excellent learning tool!! ( )

This book would be great for intermediate readers. This story is about Mary Blaire who has a deep love for colors and creative artwork; it tells the history of her journey as she goes to work for Walt Disney. This book is beautifully illustrated and would be great for teaching about strong female role models in artistic careers. ( )

As a child, Mary Blair noticed colors everywhere. One of the first women to be hired by Walt Disney Studios, she worked with men who mainly saw things in black and white and disliked her bright style. After leaving Disney, she was hired back for her “vivid” and “wild” imagination to create It’s a Small World. Includes Author’s Note
