I discovered this book in my local library over 40 years ago and became so enthralled with it that I would borrow it repeatedly (I even remember the Dewey decimal code--793.73). It stimulated my interest in language, vocabulary, and wordplay and is directly responsible for my love of word games, especially crossword puzzles (of which I have been an avid solver for 35 years). The subtitle of the book accurately describes its contents, with page after page of fascinating linguistic aberrations and coincidences. ( )
