Darlene Clark Hine was born in Morley, Missouri on February 7, 1947. She received a BA from Roosevelt University in 1968 and a MA and PhD from Kent State University in 1970 and 1975, respectively. She is considered a leading historian of the African American experience who helped found the field of black women's history. She has taught at South show more Carolina State College, Purdue University, and Michigan State University. She has written numerous books including Black Victory: The Rise and Fall of the White Primary in Texas; When the Truth Is Told: Black Women's Community and Culture in Indiana, 1875-1950; Black Women in White: Racial Conflict and Cooperation in the Nursing Profession, 1890-1950; and Speak Truth to Power: The Black Professional Class in United States History. Rosalyn Terborg-Penn was born Rosalyn Marian Terborg in Brooklyn, New York on October 22, 1941. She received a bachelor's degree in history from Queens College, a master's degree in history from George Washington University, and a Ph.D. in history from Howard University. She began her teaching career at Morgan State University in Baltimore as an show more instructor in 1969 and retired as a professor of history in 2006. She continued to work with graduate students and retired fully from Morgan in 2009. As a historian, she focused on the role of black women in the women's suffrage movement. She was the author of seven books including African American Women in the Struggle for the Vote, 1850-1920 and The Afro-American Woman: Struggles and Images written with Sharon Harley.
