Description

For the promise of a commission, Corporal Whitney O'Thraight had become Ship's Armorer on the first interstellar flight launched by the planet Vespucci. But the Asperance's maiden voyage was also its last. And just a few hours after the crash landing, the crew was overrun by armored savages. Only Whitney and a badly wounded lieutenant survived, and they were prisoners of the local Baron.

This book follows the crew of the titular ship as they travel the galaxy overthrowing the oppressive governments(if the local population has made the proper ethical and philosophical advancements) Some nice world-building and interesting characters, I enjoyed it
Like most of Smith's work it is dirivitative and not particularly rivinting. Probably enough to make me put down the North American Confederacy series for good.
