This biography on Dr. Seuss is just as playful and clever as his publications, capturing his influence on young readers since the 1950’s. The illustrations are very colorful with Seuss characters depicted in their original sketches and Dr. Seuss in a more realistic light. I particularly like that the book covers how Dr. Seuss was given a list of “approved” words to use in his book. This could spark a discussion about writing creatively within specific guidelines. Included in the book are a list of Dr. Seuss books and a tutorial on how to writing and illustration by Dr. Seuss himself. This book will be a popular addition to my classroom library.
My favorite books growing up were Dr. Seuss books so to learn how he created these books that everyone loves was interesting. In 1954 kids were struggling to read books finding most of the children's books boring. So, Dr. Seuss tries to write books that kids will find interesting and will want to continue reading different books. It was very hard at first, but as he kept working he eventually was able to write some of the most known books to this day. I loved how the illustrations in this book were very similar to the way Dr. Seuss' illustrations are. I found this book also to be very inspirational not just for children, but also for adults. It teaches us that even though we struggle we don't stop, and keep working hard.
Imagine That is a story written in order to inform people about how Dr. Seuss created the infamous book: The Cat in the Hat. It goes through how and why he was selected, his processes and limitations to writing the story, and what he created next. Interesting facts that I got from the story were that he liked to write while wearing hats, he had a list of words he was required to use while writing the story, and that he then challenged himself later to use even less words to later write the story Green Eggs and Ham.
I loved this story. I have always been a fan of Dr. Seuss and his creativity. It was interesting to get to read a children's biography about a famous children's author. This book would be great to use maybe in a small mini show more lesson in the month of March (Dr. Seuss month) and it could be used with any age group. It could be used in the beginning of the month to introduce Dr. Seuss and then the lesson could expand from there by giving students their own list of words and having them create their own story. show less

This book talks about Dr. Seuss and his journey of becoming a famous children's author. It explains how he was given a list of words to create his famous book The Cat in the Hat. He was only allowed to used the words on the list! The author provides young readers with tips on how to become the best author they can be.This book could be used as a mentor text for writing. After reading the book and showing examples of how Dr. Seuss created stories using a strict list of words, students can be provided with a list of words and asked to create their own story!
Anyone who likes children's books must have this book! The reader finds out why Dr. Seuss wrote "The Cat in the Hat", and how he managed it. The book is a fun read for children and informative for adults. Wonderful!
