Fiction. Romance. HTML:

All that up-and-coming musician Jesse Jamison has ever wanted is to be on the cover of Rolling Stone. When a gossip website nearly catches him kissing someone who isn't his famous girlfriend — and also isn't a girl — he considers the near miss a wake-up call. There's a lot riding on his image as the super-straight rocker, and if he wants to realize his dreams, he'll need to toe the line. Luckily, he's into women too. Problem solved.

After a decade pretending to be his ex's roommate, pediatrician Hunter Wyatt is done hiding. He might not know how to date in the Grindr world, how to make friends in a strange city, or whether his new job in Toronto is a mistake. But he does know that no one is worth the closet. Not even the world's sexiest rock star.

As Jesse's charity work at Hunter's hospital brings the two closer together, a bromance develops. Soon, Hunter is all Jesse can think about. But when it comes down to a choice between Hunter and his career, he's not sure he's brave enough to follow his heart.

People criticize Romance because "you know how it ends." Ah, but, as in real life, it isn't the end that's most important. It is the journey.

There are quite a few things I loved about this particular journey, or hated, depending on the instant you asked me. I am a direct person, but I know so many people who are not. So, characters being iffy and unsure, and silent when they might've spoken, and particularly the ways Jesse and Hunter act and react, out of different incentives, different fears from each other, play out beautifully in this story. It's well-written, simplified in a few places to keep the subplots from intruding (but I like subplots, so I always notice), and there's very little explaining when it's more efficient to SHOW the reader what the character's thinking and feeling. I love that. She trusts us to keep up. :) ( )

This was such an adorable romance. Jesse and Hunter’s relationship goes from being friends to best friends to lovers in such an organic way that I was invested in it right from page 1. They really understand each other well and come to depend on the other without even realizing it. This book is another perfect kind of slow burn and every page that I waited for them to get together was worth it.

Jesse maybe a rockstar with a bad boy image but he is a softie at heart who will do anything to achieve his dreams. His interactions with the kids at Hunter’s hospital were so cute and showed how much of a sweetheart he is. Hunter is a workaholic doctor who is devoted to his patients and can’t get a hold of his emotions sometimes when something bad happens to the kids. He is also quite lonely and just wants a partner to share his life with. When both of them start spending time together, Jesse gets a friend who has nothing to do with his popularity or music and Hunter gets a partner with whom he can share all his dreams and insecurities.

I loved that both of them gave such important to their friendship and wanted to hold onto it even if circumstances and personal inhibitions prevented them from being more. I really wished the conflict didn’t happen and the way Hunter ran away felt very out of character, but I loved the OTT way it was resolved and the epilogue is all kinds of cheesy and cute. It was a lovely and fitting end to their charming love story. ( )
