Lively discussion of the Persian Wars, generally following Herodotus, but probably a bit more accurate than Herodotus could manage. Black and white illustrations: photographs or drawings of ancient sculptures and bas reliefs, reproductions of illustrations from other books of the dramatic moments. A number of sidebars, throwing in a bit of biography, cultural commentary, or historical investigation. A solid work.
