This is a great story for so many reasons. The descriptions are vivid, the attention to detail wonderful and the characters that populate the background to Marvin and Tim’s story made me laugh. I know those people – most of them are part of any family I have ever met, including my own. It is so much easier to read about them when they’re someone else’s ‘problem’, though.

The buildup to the reunion was great. I was curious about the reason for Marvin hating the idea of seeing his family again. The emotions were as vivid as the detail of the delaying tactics and the actual meeting. Gradually, the details of the previous meeting emerge and I was horrified. Tim, Marvin’s boyfriend, seems to take it all in stride, and that made me wonder. I absolutely adored the twist at the end. It really did make everything better for Marvin – in more ways than one.

This is not a story about conflicts or evil villains. It is one about the human condition, and held my attention due to the nice, gradual buildup of tension about what was going to happen. The ending had me smiling and very happy to have read the story. If you are looking for a quick read to make you feel good and to remind you what life is really all about, you will love this story as much as I did.
