Blindness is just the beginning. Once the virus strips away everything remotely human, all that's left is a mindless savage predator. Hank Mason thought he had nothing left to lose, but now that he is all that stands between a young girl and a gruesome fate, he's sworn to protect her with his very life. But the virus isn't done yet. A new, deadlier terror is slowly emerging, and even as Mason and Mackenzie battle their way from one horror to the next in a desperate flight through a world gone mad, they both know that their time is running out. The girl is already blind, and things are about to get a whole lot worse.… (more)

For Mason, it already was a depressing time, flying back to San Francisco from a solo vacation immediately following a sudden breakup with his girlfriend, but red flags began to arise when he woke up during the flight to discover stress and pandemonium as everybody else on the flight, including the crew members had suddenly gone blind. Luckily, since Mason could see, he was able to help the crew land the plane, saving the day. Then, a few days later, when Mason finally left his apartment to head to work, he discovered the next stage of this strange disease was to turn the blind victims into savage animals with hyper-sensitive hearing, seeking to maul and eat any other living thing they can catch, which has turned the streets of the city into apocalyptic pandemonium. Life has now become a desperate game of survival, where trust and split-second decision making takes on a higher level of delicacy, especially when death of an infected human only leads to stage three. Told totally through the limited omniscient view of Mason, this zombie horror thriller produces lots of fear and action, which will surely satisfy the most ardent “Walking Dead” fan. The action is well described, and Mason’s inner feelings of fear, loss, and hope are well written, especially when he takes on the additional challenge of helping eleven-year-old Mackenzie, despite her displaying the blinding symptoms of stage one. However, the plot structure is still basically a straight-forward zombie apocalypse horror survival tale that touches all of the points of a few characters battling and hiding from a world of monsters.
