Before I start even getting it to this book I want to give you all a warning!!!! You're going to need a huge box of Kleenex and something to take the puffiness away from your eyes, cause if you are anything like me, you are going to be blubbering your fool head off all the way through this book!
Niall Marksman has been my favorite character in the Sinful Brides series by Christi Caldwell! All the way through the books I have been drawn to him, but it wasn't until his book (The Lady's Guard), that you really know the depth of him. And then in walks Lady Diana Verney…aka Ryker Black's sister… to upset the apple cart, and then she stabs him! by accident of course! But that sets us on an adventure, with two of the most lonely souls that show more I have experienced!...hence the tears. Now I will not go into any more of the story, as I refuse to spoil it for everyone, but I will say…I see what you are doing there Ms. Caldwell! With Calum and Cleo! And boy do I like it!!! Oh the fireworks!
Every part of this book is beautiful; from the plot to the writing and characters! It's just SO superb! And that is in truth shows what type of an author Christi Caldwell is; not only does she a write a book in such a way that it's new, refreshing, and keeps you on the edge of your seat! But she manages to pull it off in one of the most difficult sub-genre imaginable, Historical Romance!!
With all that being said, I want to give kudos to the author, for yet another amazing book! And I honestly cannot wait for the next installment.
I give The Lady's Guard 5 stars! show less

Christi Caldwell does it again. She has an amazing way of writing wounded characters and helping them find the peace and love they deserve. In this case, Lady Diana Verney is virtually invisible. Her mother has been taken to Bedlam after attempting to have her husband's illegitimate children murdered. Now everyone thinks that Diana will inherit her mother's madness and she is ruined in the eyes of the ton.
Niall Marksman, grew up on the streets of St Giles and has the scars to prove it, not all of them visible. He is now a partner in the Hell and Sin club with Diana's half-brother. When Diana suspects that someone is trying to harm her she turns to her brother who tasks Niall to guard her.
Diana and Niall come from two different worlds show more and yet they both share the pain of being an outsider and together they are able to learn to trust and love.
This book has a way of bringing out the tears as the two struggle to overcome their past and think they can change. The careful way that Christi handles their relationship shows why she is an amazing author. show less

The Lady's Guard Beauty enters the lair of the beast and ends up rescuing them both. An adventurous spin on a tale embedded within the hearts of many romantics all over the world. Christi Caldwell has that touch. The Lady's Guard proves it. Niall is a broken man who lives on the edge of society and wallows in the center of danger. Diana is a woman that finds herself in the midst of a mysterious power struggle that lands her in serious danger from an unknown enemy. There is always a twist and a hidden lesson of value waiting hidden within. The most valuable one: The most beautiful person shines from the inside, not dazzles from the outside. Through dazzling adventure, the darkest of dangers and the tragedy that surrounds them this couple show more creates something beautiful. show less
Diana believes someone is trying to harm her and goes to see her half-brother (who runs a gambling casino) for protection since their father thinks she's just being imagintive. He sends his best guard to protect her. Niall grew up on the streets and resents the pampered nobility. Lots of miscommunication, and getting to know you before Diana breaks through the tough guy barrier he's built up and he realizes that she's not a snob and not like anyone he's ever met.
I quite enjoyed this, even if I couldn’t really relate to the heroine. Rounding up to four stars because I love this series!
