This book is about a curious boy who looks under a rock to find a whole world of bugs and insects! This would be a good book to read to students if they were looking for more information about bugs. I myself found it boring but I'm not into bugs, however, this is a good book with tons of information.
Under One Rock is a cumulative informational book that details a small child's findings when he lifts a rock.

This is an interesting book with a great deal of information included on the insects and worms found in nature. The cumulative nature of the text draws children into the story and allows predictability for early readers. The author's notes, glossary, and publisher information in the back of the book provides a fantastic classroom or parent resource.

As a nature lover and a mother who believes children today are suffering from nature deficit disorder, I am so thankful to have added this book to my library. It is a wonderful example of the science that occurs around us at any given moment. If we just slow down for a moment, we may show more witness some of the wonders of the natural world.

As a classroom extension, consider placing a large rock on the playground then observing the changes under the rock for several months. The grass will die, insects may inhabit the sheltered space, earthworms may be observed, etc. In addition, a nature walk may reveal many other small ecosystems in unexpected locations. If you are looking for a naturalist title or a book to inspire the exploration of nature, this is a good start!

Essentially, this was built from the framework of The House That Jack Built, as are many children's books, but it was a very well-done example of that variety of book. The field notes appendix at the end was my favorite part..
This educational book is not just rich with information about insects found in your backyard but also with descriptive language. Very educational and interesting. Appropriate for grades 5-6.
This book is a fun way to educate children about habitats within the environment. The story has a rhythm about it that adds to the pictures that keep children entertained while they are being educated. Recommended for children ages 5 and up.
The theme for "Under One Rock" is that there is always new information to learn, you just need to go find it. The book was engaging because our protagonist is always interested in learning new material and you're never quite sure what he will look for next. I would recommend this book for 3rd graders
This book is about a little girl playing in a field and starts to look under rocks and find different types of bugs, slugs and other living creatures like that. Also, in the back of the book, the author put educational information on each of the bugs that was discovered under the rocks.

The pictures in this book were very beautiful and very detailed. Also, I really liked the way the author put the educational information in the book but did not present it in a way to where the reader felt as though they were learning.

I would read this book when we were learning about bugs and insects. I would also use this book as an introduction to an outside activity. I would have the students go on a bug hunt and search for different types of bugs.
