"In Shiloh, Fracassi's powerful, precise writing immerses the reader in the savage brutality of a Civil War battle - an exquisitely harrowing precursor to the strange horror of the tale. Yet again, Fracassi knocks it out of the park.
I have no interest in the Civil War. I'm not a history buff by any means, and the history of my neighbours to the south doesn't do much for me.
So, I questioned whether this one was going to work for me. But damned if Fracassi didn't draw me right into the battle and make me feel the horror of war.
And then, he introduced the other element, slowly and carefully. The story takes a pretty solid left turn, and I was so along for the ride.
The sheer imagination of the author blows me away. Couple that to a clear, solid ability to tell a great story, and you have one of the top horror writers working today.
Great little book. Well worth your time.
