Although I couldn't get the numbers game, the characters grabbed me. Since the rise of Tony Soprano and his New Jersey desparados, we have seen the Numbers characters and heard their rhythms over and over. However, Nick Tosches breathes big time life into these grim, small time guys and demonstrates how hard it is to look away when they cast a dead-eyed glance your way.
