As the title says it's a launching point into the philosophy of Plotinus. A very short and to the point book which gives bullet points and explanations to the key sections to Plotinus's philosophy. You glean enough to have an idea of what Plotinus had to say and perhaps develop the desire to jump into the Ennead and begin wading your way through it.

Porphyry of Tyre stands not only as the most notable disciple and successor of the great spiritual philosopher Plontinus, but also as a philosopher of many talents in his own right.

(Click to show. Warning: May contain spoilers.)It was Ammonius of Alexandria, "Inspired by Divinity," who, devoting himself enthusiastically to the truth in philosophy, and rising above the popular notions that made philosophy an object of scorn, clearly understood the doctrine of Plato and of Aristotle, gathered them into a single ideal, and thus peacefully handed philosophy down to his disciples Plotinus, [the pagan] Origen, and their successors.
