There were a lot of things I enjoyed about this book. However, I felt the entire date-rape and resulting pregnancy scenario was dealt with way to casually; and the ending relating to that part of the story made me want to throw the book across the room.

I'll definitely be giving her other books a try, but I hope they handle sensitive, serious topics in a slightly better fashion. Or just leave out the serious stuff altogether, to make it a perfect beach read.
Enjoyed the setting of beach life on the coast, the over-the-top parties and decorated beauty salon, the humor among friends, the realization that friendship is so important and her look at sex at a later time in life. I respected her idea of marrying her gay friend to create a family with her rape pregnancy. Disagreed that her college daughter was still not told about it yet. Got the humor of seeing her Dad getting involved but it creates that continuing of older man and a younger lady lover. The stories Miss Mavis had were too short.
Isle of Palms did not disappoint. From the opening sentence, Anna's accent and character came through loud and clear, along with those of the many eccentric personalities in the story. Isle of Palms showed that no matter how old you are, you do have the power to change your circumstances if you have the courage to take the first step. There may be a few bumps along the way, but that's the story to tell.

Favorite lines: "Didn't everyone you loved rub off on you a little, leaving a soapy residue of their best self? They did. And through them, you might become somebody with your own residue worth leaving around."
I don’t know how these types of nooks are classified
Are they chick lit, women’s beach books or just fiction, but this was an entertaining book, and a great story, about second chances, family and loneliness.
I will definitely read others from this author.
This book was okay. I would have been more inspired and impressed if the main character had done more for herself, rather than having everything fall into her lap. Pretty unrealistic. I found the characters likeable, though, and enjoy reading about The South, and especially Charleston and the islands. That's the reason I read Frank's books.
The characters in this Lowcountry novel reminded me of the characters in Sullivan's Island. Where they give you feeling of being just slightly over the top. The story was better though. There was more substance to it and the storyline was a little more interesting, even if I didn't like the cast.

I have to say I never read drama's and was very surprised by this author and the book. Isle of Palms is the first book I read and I feel in love with it. Anna is very humorous, charming and witty at times. We can all relate to her story in some shape, form, or fashion. There is a bit of drama, comedy and a few life's lessons along the way. Not to mention her ex husband, daughter, father etc and some of her customers and co workers are a hoot. This book is very intriguing and I am looking forward to reading more from Dorothea Benton Frank
