Weller marks the childhood fantasies and nostalgia of Bradbury's stories in a style that reflects the writer's effusive personality. He shows a fan's enthusiasm for reclaiming Bradbury's waning literary prestige and rekindling interest in works like "Dandelion Wine."
I enjoyed this extensive biography of Ray Bradbury as I not only learned about his life, I also learned how his short stories and books were born.
The book would have been a wonderful, intimate and friendly sort of biography even if I hadn't met Sam Weller and hosted a reading/lecture/signing with him at my library. Meeting Weller, though, brought so much more to the experience. He had so many wonderful back stories about Bradbury, and so many great anecdotes. I haven't read much Bradbury but hope to in the future. This book really whets the appetite for exploring more of the man's works.
This guy was such a hero to me when I was growing up. Disappointing to read this biography about a great writer who never quite got the concept of growing up. Go figure.
A science fiction writer who was very prolific. Might be interested in reading if you like his work because that is what the book focuses on. He wrote a short story a week. With this output some are great and some suck. The most interesting thing I remember is that Bradbury wrote science fiction, but he refused to get on planes. He didn't use the techology.
