It is largely a chronological account of 100 seasons of league competition, structured like a weekly or monthly news and current affairs digest. It contains an immense amount of detail, significant facts, highlights, incidents and intriguing trivia. There is no overall connecting narrative but there are regular themed articles on different aspects of the VFL/AFL’s history and some biographical material. The early period of football in Victoria from 1858 until 1896 is also covered in an extended introductory section. The book’s greatest appeal is the wealth of pictorial material which is very well presented although the source of the images are only partially provided. This makes full identification of their original source very difficult. It contains a good name and subject index and a bibliography. Folio size. no reviews | add a review
