Rose McAleese is to poetry what MC Lyte is to rap: a wicked lyricist whose poems embody the feminine and hardcore. I trust McAleese not to sugarcoat, in fact, I depend on it. In a world where too many women are concerned with playing a man's game, McAleese steps up and vows she will never resort to such tactics, promising us a daughter who will "bite the end of words like she's running out of breath."… (more)

I picked up this gem of a book to fulfill a Book Riot #ReadHarder challenge - published by a micropress. It is so much more than just a check mark on my challenge sheet.

The author is a young woman, strong and eloquent. Her medium is spoken word and poetry slam, which comes through strongly in her writing.

Often in a book of poetry there are highs and lows. This book was all highs, even though some topics are quite dark.

My favorites were Bobby Sands, Match and Flame, White Man, and Blackberry Picking. Well, actually, all of them. ( )
