Pete the Cat's family goes on a camping adventure. He enjoys fishing with his dad and eating it when his mom cooks it. To top it off, they make s'mores and talk about Bigfoot. Pete leaves a s'more for Bigfoot. Pete, sharing a tent with his brother Bob, finds it difficult to sleep because of strange noises. Bob accounts for most of the sounds, but what happens when Bob falls asleep and Peter hears a big crunching noise? It's a cute picture book for young readers. ( )

I gave this guided reading book a 5/5 because the story is very well done and the topics are those that students will most likely already have background knowledge on, but if not the teacher can provide this to the students. This book has great illustrations to support the text, that the students can also utilize when doing a picture walk before the guided reading and throughout the reading to help them figure out words they may not know. This book also utilizes word patterns as well that can help the reader. This book specifically is about Pete going camping for the first time with his family. A problem arises when Pete becomes scared because of the scary Bigfoot story Bob told him. This book allows the students to think if Bigfoot is real by engaging the students with questions. This also encourages students to ask themselves questions as they are reading. ( )
