A fair start

Excellent characterization, you want to follow along. I had to rate it downward a bit though, for two reasons:
Firstly due to a pet peeve of mine, which is to create an evidently smart character & then have them do something so bizarrely stupid that it's out of character. Usually this is done to increase the ACTION or drama to try to increase engagement. To me it's too much at the expense of believability, and I have to throw it down for a time.
Second, the plot is a little weak, but not so much as to create an unbelievable moment, and it is done reasonably, if a bit juvenile at times ( )

This was one of the most unique cozies I’ve read, which all comes down to the setting, a zoo in England. The action starts off right away, which is good because the one weakness of the book is it’s length. It’s so short just little over 200 pages, that we never really get to know any of the characters except for Madigan “Madi” Amos the main character. That’s ok though because Madi easily carries the book not only as a strong animal advocate but also as a budding webcomic artist. The way that Madi uses the squirrel monkeys to attack the gang and save Lowell the P.I. and thwart the animal smuggling was smart, brave and well thought out.

This was as much fun as the authors Witch series while being a lot more realistic as we..

A traditional cozy in a not so traditional setting, 'Penguins and mortal Peril' is a fantastic read.

With well constructed and funny characters, and an intriguing and well carried plot, this book is truly a delight. I simply couldn't stop reading and I really hope there will be more books with Madigan Amos as central character. ( )

This is promising to be a delightful series. I started the book being a tiny bit sceptical, but I was blown away.

The story line was cleverly crafted and drew me in hook, line and sinker. Madi is a wonderful main character and I was fascinated by the behind the scenes glimpse of life at the zoo. Not to mention the fact that everyone looked like a possible suspect. I am awaiting the next instalment of this series with baited breath.

I would recommend this book to everyone who loves cosy mysteries.

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. ( )

A cozy mystery set in a zoo. Lots of characters, lots of animals, some clues, and a few dead bodies… What more could you ask for from an enjoyable read. ( )
