Return to the world of Mortal Engines in this new book of short stories about the rebellious young aviatrix, Anna Fang. I haven't read the Mortal Engines series (any of it); I picked this book up because I watched the 2018 movie and fell in love with Anna Fang - and I was delighted to find that there are more stories of her, in this book. I was even more delighted to find that they exist because the author was also taken by Jihae's portrayal of Anna Fang on screen.

Happily, I am just as (if not more) fond of Anna after reading these stories than I was when I sought them out.

It was very interesting (and sometimes owchy) to see Anna's backstory, her growing up a bit, falling in love with the Jenny Haniver as she built it, growing into herself and refining her beliefs through experience and adventures.

I liked the structure, opening and bridged with little show more bits of Anna among other aviators (even if she refuses to share her stories the way they trade theirs) and ending leading into (I assume) Anna's entrance into the main story of Mortal Engines. show less
Short, fun. Anna Fang is an awesome character. But you wouldn't read these stories unless you were also a fan of "Mortal Engines"; they're ancillary.
This is a collection of short stories released to capitalize on the movie adaptation of mortal engines. They were ok, providing a little background on me of the characters from mortal engines, but not great.
