Another fabulous read from Sarah Morgan - this is only the second of her books that I have read ( both 5* reads for me) and am looking forward to reading more of her books in 2019. Definitely a go to author for contemporary romance reads. ( )

A Christmas tale set in the snowy Scottish Highlands featuring three sisters coming home to see their family with lots of drama and twisty backstories to work through? Sign me up! Wonderful writing. These characters were complex, sympathetic, and I found myself relating to them in small ways and wanting to get to the next chapter.

The three sisters were orphaned as children after their parents were killed in a climbing accident and came to live with their mother’s best friend. They bear different emotional scars from that event. Interesting present-day conflicts—Beth, a mother who no longer wants to stay at home and yearns to go back to work finds her family thrown into chaos when she and her husband can no longer agree about their future. Hannah, a career woman who has sworn never to have a relationship or children and may have a surprise in store. And Posy, who has stayed home out of duty to the parents who adopted and raised her, but yearns for a different life. When all three arrive back in Scotland for Christmas, interesting times are in store! This had some great twists and surprises as the sisters begin to talk about the past and the deaths of their parents, as well as deal with their present day lives. A super story with cozy tales of snow and storms outside!

I tried reading this book during the holidays of 2020 and just could not get into it, so I set it aside. In hindsight, it was not the fault of the book but the mood I was in. I came back to it this holiday season (December 2021) and enjoyed it.

It does start a bit slow, but once I got to know each of the sisters I hooked. I liked how the author showed used one tragic event to intertwine all the characters. The feelings of guilt and inadequacies seemed so real and touch me. ( )

I read this at the perfect time: during a cold, snowy December weekend while I had a cold and lacked the energy to get off the couch. It's not going to win any prizes for great literature, but it hits a lot of my sweet spots: sister relationships, hunky boyfriends, Scotland, snow. Lots of great moments without resorting to the Hallmark-level cheesiness that is often associated with Christmas stories. ( )
