On The Road With The Ramones
by Monte A. Melnick

Description
The Ramones' music has influenced nearly every power pop, punk, alternative, and metal band. Monte A. Melnick served as The Ramones tour manager from their early New York club days in the '70s to their farewell gigs in 1996. Filled with memorabilia including photographs and interviews collected along the way, this is his view of life on the road with the band as "babysitter to psychiatrist, booking agent to travel agent, paymaster to van driver." http://www.ontheroadwiththeramones.comTags

This was really funny, fascinating, and sad if you’re a Ramones fan. It’s not a straight narrative, it’s just little bites of interviews with lots of people who worked and played with the Ramones (and friends, fans, and people who were in the scene) in a somewhat chronological order.
There was a lot more craziness that I expected, not in the "whoo party" way, in the "these are crazy people" way. It seemed like a fair picture though, and there’s good stuff in there too.
If you are a fan and you don’t already know about Johnny’s obnoxious right wing craziness you’re going to be sad.

Good book, but was it ever depressing! Most books about bands and travels come off like morning DJs self-congratulatory 'huhhuh'ing, but this book avoided that. I couldn't help thinking '3/4 of the band is dead!' while reading it, though.
