"For Lucely Luna, ghosts are more than just the family business. Shortly before Halloween, Lucely and her best friend, Syd, cast a spell that accidentally awakens malicious spirits, wreaking havoc throughout St. Augustine. Together, they must join forces with Syd's witch grandmother, Babette, and her tubby tabby, Chunk, to fight the haunting head-on and reverse the curse to save the town and Lucely's firefly spirits before it's too late."--Jacket flap.… (more)

* I got this book for review*
I found this to such a fun read that focused on ghost hunting, haunted houses and family. I also really liked the two lead characters in this book and how this book had a nice balance between parents and kids. I though the start was a bit confusing because we had so many plots to focus on but overall it was really fun read. I thought the ending was much clearer and really liked it. The ending me reminded me of some of the elements of charmed the original series. I also liked the diversity of the read and would def read more books set in this world. ( )

Lucely is the only one who can see the ghosts of her ancestors. When they start to seem sick, she’s worried that they will disappear. She and her best friend Syd find and cast a spell, thinking it will help the ancestors. But instead, it unleashes a lot of evil spirits. They must enlist Syd’s grandmother Babette to try and banish the evil spirits before Halloween or they may destroy the town.

This is a great middle-grade book for Halloween. It’s spooky and suspenseful but not enough to give kids nightmares or anything. The audiobook was a quick listen. Recommended. ( )

There are some really cool things going on in this book -- Lucely's connection to her firefly ancestors; her great friendship with Sid, the varying levels of magical happenings -- it's a cool and interesting world. There are also some plot holes and some very confusing decision making. It was hard to figure out why the characters would decide to do something, and also why they suddenly drop things (like the map) and why they won't ask for help from Sid's grandmother. She's amazing, and fierce, and why wouldn't you ask her to help? Anyway. It's a pretty entertaining ghostly caper, with a beautifully enmeshed Latinx culture at the root. ( )
