For a 17 year old, these poems are very nuanced and mature. There are a few that are a gut punch. There's a few common themes about living between two worlds, and learning to love and accept herself. And then there's the heartbreaking theme of living in the time of school shootings. There's love, hope, and heartbreak here. All very well done.

I think Herrera will be a poet to watch. As she grows and learns, I suspect her words will have a bit more polish and economy that will really make her poetry shine. ( )
