Description

Considering she didn't like him very much, Doctor Tane van Diederijk seemed to pop up in Euphemia's life quite a lot. But beggars couldn't be choosers. Euphemia had been left with debts to pay and a big house she couldn't afford to keep. Tane offered the only workable solution to her problems, he would become Euphemia's tenant. However difficult it might be, Euphemia was going to have to grit her teeth and bear it. After all, Tane might grow on her, in time.

Typical but enjoyable story. British nurse is annoyed by Dutch doctor, then falls for him, but there's an unsuitable other woman in the picture, but it's all cleared up nicely in the end. I did enjoy that the other woman/unsuitable fiancée in this one was not scheming and Machiavellian, just self-centered to an astonishing degree. She is disposed of handily in a manner that is not cruel, and is actually rather amusing. We do have the regular issues of a lead man who refuses to ever explain himself and a lead woman who jumps to conclusions, but sometimes it's comforting to know how a story is all going to turn out. It's restful.
